What are Stem Cells?
‘Undifferentiated’ master cells in our body
They differentiate into other tissues & organs
Building blocks of our body and play a diverse role
Protect the body from sickness and disease
Ageing
Increases our vulnerability to illnesses and disease
Stem Cell Therapy
Ensures that our stem cells are adequately replenished and taken care of to prevent health problems, and overcome ageing as a whole
Type of Stem Cells
HSCS
Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs) that are found in the cord blood, bone marrow and peripheral blood are multipotent stem cells that have the potential to differentiate into blood components such as red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, etc.
MSCS
Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) that are found in the Wharton’s Jelly, bone marrow, fat issue and tooth pulp are multipotent stem cells that have the potential to differentiate into a wide range of cells and tissues such as bone, heart, nerve, cornea, fat and cartilage.
Immune Cells
Part of the Immune system
Protect our body from pathogens and foreign invaders
mmune cells can be divided into 2 main groups:-
GENERAL
Cells that recognise the antigens on the surface of bacteria, viruses and other invaders and quickly destroy them, otherwise called as innate immunity and provides the first line of defence in our body.
TARGETED
Cells known as lymphocytes target invaders by producing a specific protein called antibodies that target specific antigens, which is otherwise called as acquired immunity, and provides the second line of defence in our body.
